It took a bunch of interesting characters and continued what years of Overwatch 1 patches had done to make them more dull and standardized. It took Overwatch 1 from me when I was more than content to have that more or less final version of it forever and enjoy it, only to then enforce an overly twitchy, arguably more broken mess of 5 v 5 that doesn't feel much like the game I used to like and love. Overwatch 2 will forever go down as my most fucking hated game and I don't even care how harsh that sounds. I think the best thing Blizzard can do on the story front is give up and just let Netflix do an animated series with the voice cast or something. Everything else from characters to content could just have been added to Overwatch 1 years ago. The fact the community was left to languish for months and years getting barely any new content on the promise something new was coming, and then it turns out that something new was just taking one player off each team and replacing loot boxes with a battlepass. They have really squandered the potential of this game by spending years chasing the E-sports white whale. Then when they announced 2 I got my hopes up that this was the moment they would begin to move the story along and begin to explore this IPs potential. But another big reason was how they created all these amazing characters and a genuinely interesting world that they really could have done something special with and just.did nothing with them. As someone who played Overwatch 1 pretty much non-stop from 2016-2018, I fell off hard for a number of factors (the obvious meddling from Bobby and the focus on Overwatch League being chief among them).
